Advancing the Care of Women's Neurology and Education Research

A brief history

Dr. Esther Bui is neurologist, clinician educator, and associate professor within the Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto in the field of women's neurological health. She is also the founder of myTEProf.com, an innovative global evaluation platform for the fast-paced clinical environment. 

Dr. Bui's pregnancy and epilepsy clinic is dedicated to fertility, pre-conception counselling, pregnancy and postpartum care for women with epilepsy but extends to all the life stages including ageing, perimenopause, and menopause.

In 2015 Dr. Bui created a training program for resident physicians to learn more about Women's Issues in Neurology. Physicians across Canada as well as the US and Europe come to learn more about Women's Neurology.

In 2017, Dr. Bui founded Canada's first and only accredited Women's Neurology Fellowship at the University of Toronto. She is currently the co-Director of the Women's Neurology Fellowship Program and the Director of the Epilepsy Fellowship program. 

In 2018, myTEProf was launched with the philosophy of "See One, Do One, Teach One ... Value One" - in recognition of the fundamental importance of feedback in the face-paced clinical setting. With now over 1000+ registered users in Canada, US, Europe, Asia and South Asia. Clinical teachers around the world use this platform to develop their teaching portfolio with thousands of processed evaluations. Dr. Bui's work in developing myTEProf has garnered the William Goldie Award in Education and the Wightman-Berris Academy Anderson Award in Program Innovation and Development. As educators learn about myTEProf, its utility is expanding to both clinical and non-clinical (research) teaching. myTEProf is currently accepted as an evaluation platform in the Department of Medicine, University of Toronto for Annual Academic Reviews, Continuing Faculty Appointment Reviews (CFAR), Junior Promotions, Senior Promotions as well as the University of Toronto graduate programs such as Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. 

She has published 40+ scientific papers and books including the recent American Academy of Neurology Women's Neurology curriculum https://www.aan.com/tools-resources/academic-core-curricula, a clinical handbook, "Women with Epilepsy: A Practical Management Handbook" and a children's book "Lost and Found: A Bunny's Story". Her children's book, inspired by the 900+ moms and babies graduates of the epilepsy & pregnancy clinic, was written to empower parents facing illness to create an authentic narrative of their lived experiences for their children.
